Kashmir Suffers Under Scorching Heat, Registers Hottest Day of the Season
According to a meteorological department official in the area, Srinagar reached a scorching 34.0°C, surpassing the previous day's record of 33.3°C. This reading was 4.8°C higher than the seasonal average.
Other areas in the valley also witnessed the hottest day of the season, with Pahalgam recording 28.4°C, Qazigund at 33.0°C, Kokernag at 31.5°C, Kupwara at 33.1°C, and Gulmarg at 24.6°C.
The forecast suggests mainly dry weather with a possibility of a brief shower or thunderstorm in a few places during late afternoon or evening hours.
Looking ahead from June 24-28, the region can expect generally cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate thundershowers in widespread areas. Certain places in Jammu Division may experience intense showers for a short duration.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures have risen across Jammu and Kashmir, settling above normal levels in most places.
Srinagar's night temperature was 19.7°C, marking a 3.9°C increase from the previous night and exceeding the summer capital's normal average.
Similarly, Qazigund recorded a low of 17.4°C (3.1°C above normal), Pahalgam settled at 10.6°C (1.5°C above normal), Kupwara reached 16.5°C (2.4°C above normal), and Kokernag stood at 18.0°C (3.9°C above normal).
Gulmarg experienced a low of 13.6°C (3.9°C above normal), Jammu settled at 30.5°C (4.4°C above normal), Banihal registered a low of 19.0°C (3.9°C above normal), Batote was at 21.2°C (4.0°C above normal), Katra stood at 25.2°C (3.2°C below normal), and Bhaderwah recorded 19.2°C (4.3°C above normal).
In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil recorded night temperatures of 9.0°C and 12.8°C, respectively.(TTK)
