Pakistan's decision to withdraw from the ODI World Cup 2023 - Important Information

Ehsaan Mazari, Pakistan's Sports Minister and head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has given a strong warning to India. He stated that if India chooses not to participate in the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan, Pakistan will retaliate by pulling out from the 2023 World Cup in India.

During an exclusive interview with The Indian Express, Mazari shared his personal opinion on the matter. He emphasized that if India insists on playing their Asia Cup matches at a neutral venue, Pakistan will demand the same for their World Cup matches in India.
Mazari's statement was made in response to the formation of a high-profile committee by Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif. The committee's purpose is to assess Pakistan's participation in the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted by India. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari leads the committee and aims to provide recommendations to the Prime Minister, who is also the patron-in-chief of the PCB.

Although the exact schedule for the Asia Cup has not been announced yet, it is believed that Pakistan and Sri Lanka will jointly host the event. Reports suggest that India might play all their matches in Sri Lanka, which Mazari opposes. He asserts Pakistan's right to host all the matches on its own soil.

Mazari expressed his confusion about India's reluctance to play cricket in Pakistan. He accused the Indian government of politicizing sports and pointed out instances of other Indian sports teams visiting Pakistan, such as a baseball contingent and a bridge team. He emphasized the need for cricket tours to resume between the two nations.

Addressing the concerns about security, Mazari swiftly dismissed them as unfounded. He highlighted that both the New Zealand and England cricket teams recently toured Pakistan and were provided with high-level security arrangements, including presidential-level security. He also emphasized the successful hosting of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which saw the participation of numerous foreign players.

In summary, Pakistan's Sports Minister, Ehsaan Mazari, has warned India about withdrawing from the 2023 World Cup if India refuses to participate in the Asia Cup held in Pakistan. Mazari emphasized the importance of playing matches on home soil and dismissed security concerns while mentioning the successful hosting of the Pakistan Super League.
