Srinagar, June 27 (TTK): An individual suspected to be affiliated with the Al-Badr militant group was neutralized, while a police officer sustained injuries during a encounter in the Hawoora area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir on Tuesday, according to local authorities.
A spokesperson, in a statement issued to the (TTK) news agency, stated that a joint operation involving the Police, Army (1st RR), and CRPF (18 Bn) was launched based on specific intelligence about the presence of a militant in Hawoora village.
During the search operation, as the joint team approached the suspected location, the hiding militant opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in injuries to a police officer who was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
"The militant was given an opportunity to surrender, but he continued to engage in firing upon the joint forces. The security personnel effectively retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire. Consequently, a local militant associated with the proscribed Al-Badr outfit was killed, and his body was recovered from the encounter site," the statement read.
The deceased has been identified as Adil Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone, a resident of Akbarabad Hawoora in Kulgam.
"Incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including one pistol with live rounds and a grenade, were seized from the encounter site. All the recovered evidence has been documented for further investigation."
The statement mentioned that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is currently underway.
"The authorities urge the public to cooperate with the police until the encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of any potential explosive materials," it added.
