*Indian Mountaineers Achieve Historic Feat, Successfully Conquer Mt Brammah-I in Kishtwar*...
Jammu, Jul 20: A group of intrepid Indian mountaineers achieved a historic feat by conquering Mt Brammah-I, an imposing peak standing at 6,416 meters in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, as reported by an official on Thursday.
Known for its technical difficulty, Mt Brammah-I has been an enduring aspiration for the mountaineering community ever since British mountaineer Chris Bonnington first scaled it nearly five decades ago.
Situated in the Himalayas, east of Kishtwar town and near the border with Himachal Pradesh, Brammah-I forms part of a mountain massif comprising four peaks: Brammah-I, Flat Top, Brammah-II, and Arjuna, arranged from west to east, with Brammah-II being the highest.
The nine-member team, hailing from the West Bengal-based Sonarpur Aarohi Club, which includes skilled and eminent mountaineers, accomplished the successful ascent of Mt Brammah-I on Tuesday.
"This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone as the first Indian team to conquer this summit, creating history in the world of mountaineering," stated the official, highlighting that the route taken to reach the summit was also a new discovery.
The expedition began on July 16, following meticulous planning and collaboration with the Kishtwar district administration, various government bodies, and the Army. However, adverse weather conditions, including whiteouts and heavy snowfall, compelled the team to suspend their initial summit attempt.
During this period, a Sherpa member of the group fell approximately 70 meters but fortunately survived with bruises, cuts, shock, and snow blindness while searching.
