*UGC Exposes 20 Unaccredited Universities Unauthorized to Grant Degrees
*The University Grants Commission (UGC) revealed today that it has identified and labeled 20 universities operating across India as "unaccredited." These institutions lack the authority to confer degrees to students. The largest concentration of such universities (eight) is situated in Delhi.*
In a move designed to safeguard students from enrolling in unaccredited and fraudulent institutions, the UGC is urging students and their parents to verify a university's accreditation status before enrollment.
"It has come to the attention of the UGC that several institutions are issuing degrees in violation of the UGC Act. The degrees issued by these universities will not be recognized or valid for further education or employment purposes. These universities do not possess the authority to grant degrees," stated UGC secretary Manish Joshi.
