Sopore Approves Rs 55 Crore Project to Alleviate Water Shortage

Sopore, June 28 (TTK): In response to the water scarcity in Sopore town, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Sopore, S.A. Raina, has called upon the Jal Shakti department to hire additional water tankers to meet the crisis before Eid-ul-Adha.

During a press conference, the ADC acknowledged the severe water crisis in the northern Kashmir town, where residents currently receive only one hour of water supply per day, which is unacceptable.

"I have personally raised this issue with higher authorities and proposed a project worth Rs 55 crore, which has been approved by the Jal Shakhti department," stated Raina.

"At present, the concerned department has been instructed to address any leakages promptly," he added.

Raina emphasized the urgent need for rationalizing water supplies to ensure that all residents receive an adequate supply.

"People facing water scarcity should inform the office to avail the water tanker service. The department has been directed to hire more tankers to address the crisis," the ADC explained.

It is worth noting that Sopore town has been grappling with a severe water shortage, leading residents to protest on multiple occasions without any resolution.

Throughout this month, the town has witnessed approximately 20 protests.

"Amidst scorching heat, we are compelled to walk long distances to obtain water for our daily needs and to quench our thirst," expressed Sopore residents.

"We have approached the Jal Shakhti department several times to address our grievances, and though we have been assured of a speedy resolution, nothing has changed," said residents of Krankshivan colony.

"How much longer must we endure this water scarcity?" they questioned.

The water shortage has affected various areas, including Sofi Hamam, HathiShah, Ningli, Takiyabal, Adipura, and Chakrodey Khan.
